TV Soap Time……??

Ritesh and Nileshni have had me over for “dinner” and Hindi Soaps. The shows always have someone in turmoil…. Someone who is trying to destroy someone else. It is sometimes hard to watch because they are rooted with spite, hate, jealousy and revenge. It is an opportunity to further minister to them about love… something that is not really in their culture.

Amazing thing is that the shows are not “shy” about their religion. Most of the shows show the people making sacrifices to one of the 300 million gods. Amazing. America forsakes the One True Living God and those with idols don’t. Hard to comprehend.

Papa, She taught me in school!!!!

Hot hot hot…. That’s the best way to describe the weather. Water is the heaviest item I’m needing to carry from town to the house and I’m drinking a lot of water ~ I need to as I’m sweating by blinking! It is suggested to me that I get a water cooler that comes with 15 liter jugs that they deliver. When I calculated the cost, oh my gosh…. what a savings, not only financially, but I don’t need to carry it to the house! Mr. Pure is on his way!!!!

Ray, Mr. Pure, Roveena, and their two daughters bring my water cooler and water to the house.
I open the door, and I hear his eldest daughter say, “Papa, she taught me in school”. Nice to know that the children still remember. She was totally excited that I’m back. This opens the door to ministry.

We talked about my purpose here and why I keep coming back. They tell me that they are Muslims. We talk about man’s efforts to obtain righteousness. After seeing that human effort falls short, they decide that Jesus is the way. We all pray for them to receive Jesus. Ray tells me that he does have two bibles at home. That he’d search out the two tracks I gave him, good news and Holy Spirit, and study what is in them. Lord, may you fill them with your everlasting love.

Meeting the neighbors….

I’ve always said, Fiji is a prosperous land. There is an abundance of fruit and vegetables to all who want. On “my” property there is a lime tree (similar to key limes, very nice), chili plants, bread fruit trees, and papaya trees. Apparently, they belong to me and anyone who wants fruit needs to come to me to ask. I sense a Holy Ghost Set up. I’ve met some of my neighbors. All quite nice, and are very curious about the European lady who now lives next to them.

The forgotten People…..

As I’ve lifted up the Indian people, one thing that was impressed upon me was that the missionaries came over and evangelized the Native Fijians, the “islanders” but they did not really share with the Indians. Rather they were kept as “servants”/”slaves”. So the “Christian” religion has been thought of as only for the natives and Europeans, not for the Indians.

God is good as he’s going to change that. I’m learning a tremendous bit about this people group and the love for them is only deepening in my heart.

By the way, Hindi lessons are going well… I’m hoping to be able to converse fulently soon!

Have you ever had…….

Sami and I engage in a conversation of a variety of tops. One of the the topics was, about things we’ve ate: So, here we start,

Have you ever had:

Alligator – tastes like chicken

Octopus – if not cooked right, tastes like rubberbands

Squid – same as above

Snake – kind of like chicken

Goat – tastes like beef? Well kind of….

Kivika (a fruit here in Fiji)

Kasava (potato like root vegetable from fiji)

BAT! Yes BAT!!! Yikes… No way… I can not believe that they eat bat…

Sami asks me what way do I like my Fijian food prepared… I say in a lovo. That is an earth oven. Kasava, fish and chicken is just delicious! Sami professes that he’ll be getting me one “bat” to try. Well see… I don’t know about that.
