Going Fishing!!! Water or Land fish?

I was asked if I wanted to go fishing when I first arrived. My answer was if a time could be arranged, I’d love to go.

To my advid fishing friends…Thank you for all the “preparation and training” on my fishing trips. However, these people are really serious about their fishing….It was a wonderful “trip”. MK and KK, let me say that I was blessed ~ there were no leaches to attach to a hook so no need of my rubber gloves! Thank you Lord!!!!!

Adventure number 1: Catching bait. Photo number 1 shows Konam and Grandma doing so…..you find a small pond and take a net that is attached to two sticks. One “sifts” the water to see if you come with “little fish” and freshwater shrimps. These are used for bait. To catch enough to be used for fishing, you wade around for I’d say close to an hour catching bait…..
Adventure number 2: Getting to the water: photo 2 Fishing back home can sometimes require driving many miles to the lake… well here, it requires WALKING miles to get to where the rivermouth and the ocean meet. You carry all your bait and “fishing rods”. It is a beautiful walk over the sand dunes down through a grassey meadow.. cows, horses and old movie sets. Yes, movie sets that were left behind. When one finally arrives at the river banks, you are greeted by a good number of people fishing…
Adventure number 3: Finding a spot to fish: photo 3 Since fishing is taken very seriously, finding a good spot can be a bit tricky. You need enough space inbetween each “line” that is cast so you don’t hook your neighbor.
Adventure number 4: Baiting the hook Thank you Konam and Rimal.. They baited all my hooks!
Adventure number 5: Casting the line photo 4 This was the “trickiest” part of fishing for me to fish back home, and here with this fancy fishing pole, it truly needed practice so I did not “catch a land fish” with the hook.
Adventure number 6: Catching fish??? photo 5 and 6 I finally got something on the line, but to all of our amazement, I was catching crabs.. We laughed as I realed in the “big one”. Others around us were so excited that I was catching crabs they wanted to know exactally where I was throwing my line. See in the market a crab brings between 15 and 20 dollars. I hit the gold mine!
Adventure number 7: I’m better at catching land fish: photo 7 After catching a few small river fish, I decided that I’d stick with the fish that the Lord has sent me here to catch. I turned my fishing ability to the people around me. Since I was the only Eurpoean person fishing, many were curious. I walked and talked with the people fishing, answering their questions and sharing the bait (LOVE OF GOD) and watched the Holy Spirit real ’em in. Glory to God!

Thank you for sending me fishing Lord….

My Prayers over you…..

Philippians (MSG) Every time you cross my mind, I break out in exclamations of thanks to God. Each exclamation is a trigger to prayer. I find myself praying for you with a glad heart. I am so pleased that you have continued on in this with me, believing and proclaiming God’s message. Colossians (MSG) For the lines of purpose in your lives never to grow slack, but to remain tightly tied as they are to your future in heaven, kept taut by hope. For you to remember that the Message is as true among you today as when you first heard it. For it doesn’t diminish or weaken over time. It’s the same all over the world. The Message that bears fruit and gets larger and larger…..and for that Message to continue to be given out from each of you. In Jesus Name. Amen!

Prayer & Praise 5 May 08

Prayer Support:
Please pray in agreement with me for the following:

  • For the School Teaching Schedule: For me to be able to touch every single class with the Love of God and to continue to build upon the foundation that He’s already laid.
  • For the Holy Spirit to further fill the children and reveal the plans and purposes the Lord has for their lives.
  • For the Word of God to continue to have free reign and touch the hearts of the people in the villages, settlements and schools
  • For the Lord to make a way to get affordable bibles into the hands of the believers.
  • For the new believers in the remote villages to come together and read the Word of God until a Pastor is sent to oversee the church.
  • For the families of the new believers who are not quite there yet, to arrive quickly and receive Jesus as Lord and Savior
  • For the new believers to stand firm in their new faith as they endure persecution for their decision for Christ
  • For the needs of the people to be met, spirit, soul and body, according to the riches and glory in Christ Jesus
  • For the Supply I need in prayer and support to finish this assignment
  • For the Continued protection of all that concerns me.. Whether here in Fiji or other parts of the World.. Covered by the blood and garrisoned about with the Heavenly Host
  • Thanks and Praise
Please take a moment to thank and praise God for what He’s done, doing and still has for me to do here. For all those who He’s walked into my life that I’ve been so graced with, I’m thankful for lasting friendships, opened doors that have allowed me to go places and sets the stage for future ministry. More to come on that later. But I give thanks and praise from a grateful heart.

    Happy Birthday to my Friend!

You’re one of a kind…to be tresured that is for sure. I’m sorry I’m not there for the dinner in person, but know that I’m eating cake and ice cream in celebration here. I believe that your night was above and beyond what you could have asked for…. Minus having me there…. I will make up for it upon my return! I miss you.

Application of Missionary Rule number 1

I’m standing in awe of what He has been doing. For me, this has been a press because the original reason I was invited down to Fiji for, the Youth Crusades have been put on hold. For the exact reason, I really don’t know, but they are not happening as originally planned. So what did I do???? For those of you who don’t know, I’ve created a missionary handbook of rules and applied:

Missionary Rule # 1, “When things don’t go as expected, don’t lower your expectations on the Lord’s ability to act….”
Not too complicated, just following the peace in my heart. But it still requires prayer to maintain that peace.

The question is “Youth crusades, should they be the way man desires or the way the Lord has planned?”
The answer is, the Lord is having HIS Youth Crusades.

The Lord’s Youth Crusades revealed: the 2008 School session began just before I arrived back here. So, how delighted were the teachers and students that here I was back so soon after I departed in fall. For me, it is a sheer gift that I’m allowed in to minister in the Primary School. As the opportunity to deposit the love and plans and purposes of God in their hearts is one that I do not take lightly.

I have been in school not only teaching the Scripture Lessons, but also Math, Science, History, Music and English ~ I’m a “full time” teacher. It is priceless, as I am able to really work with some of the children, especially the ones who were struggling on subjects, and encourage them. It is my joy and delight to be able to pray over the children who are struggling at the teachers desk which is in the front of the classroom. The other students, regardless of what their “religious” background, say “amen” to my prayers and encourage those who struggle to come up for prayer too. It is something that would be wonderful to have back in the American Schools. In one particular class, I started to think that the students “struggled” just to come up and get prayer. Precious….

The Lord also opened up the door to the Secondary School (High School) for me to teach the Religious Education classes. The headmaster there is new and so he asked me why I had not been there the two previous years. I told him, really, I believe it is the timing of the Lord. Now is the time. There are 20 classes and another 1000 students that I have been requested to come and teach. For the first round, I’ve taught the Form 7 (Seniors) three times. Prayer, finding out the Plans and Purposes for your life, and following the dreams in your heart have been the topics. They are so full of questions and it is wonderful to see the Holy Spirit make Himself known to the students. I had four additional classes right before we went into a two week block break. I will be heading back to school at the beginning of next week and will have a full teaching schedule.
